Spring is in the Air…&… Major League Baseball is HERE!   Leave a comment

With temps reaching the 70’s & 80’s, it’s time to head to Sarasota/Tampa Bay for an early spring fix at one of our multiple baseball parks.

15 teams will train beneath the palms of Central and South Florida and many parks are literally within minutes of each other…

Sarasota hosts the Baltimore Orioles at Ed Smith Stadium while Bradenton’s Pittsburgh Pirates play at McKechnie Field and let’s not forget our exciting Tampa Bay Rays in Port Charlotte.

Unlike northern Stadiums, the stands are intimately wrapped around the infield and seats are within earshot of players chatting to teammates. The back row literally feels like the fourth or fifth row of any major league stadium.  The weather is almost always PERFECT, the beer and hot dogs are cheaper and everything – parking, tailgating, finding your seat, standing in line for food – is just a LOT more laid-back.

Unlike “season”, the ballplayers are relaxed and have little concern for that slump or losing streak and most don’t even mind signing those autographs.

Spring training has been a longtime Florida tradition.  The Detroit Tigers who train in Lakeland – between Tampa and Orlando at Joker Marchant Stadium – have been in that area since 1930. The Philadelphia Phillies have played in Clearwater since 1947 and the Pirates have called Bradenton’s McKechnie Field home for the past 43 years while Dunedin hosts the Toronto’s Blue Jays since the team started in 1977.

The Yankees have had a Florida presence since 1919 and you’re welcome to catch a game at Tampa’s Steinbrenner Stadium.

Fortunately, these ballparks are all within the Sarasota/Tampa Bay Area providing multiple game opportunities.  It’s best to buy TICKETS on-line and the weekend games sell-out early.

Non-baseball fans, take heart…

There are plenty of delightful pleasures… from award winning Beaches to St. Armand’s Circle Shopping, cultural events, museums and Sarasota’s close proximity to Central Florida’s theme parks!
